Episode 140: SUMMER SERIES: Ian Mackenzie - Mythic Masculine

We've been taught to believe that myths are untrue, yet this indicates how atrophied our cultural mythic imagination is. As a result, myth has been relegated to consumer entertainment or dismissed as irrelevant to us vs. a potent way to more deeply understand ourselves in reciprocal relationships with others and the world.

Ours is a fact-based, linear, logical, and control-based culture that doesn't allow much room to follow the deep longing to know ourselves, and yet the longing persists and will continue to persist until we answer its call. Perhaps this time in our human evolution represents a heightened collective calling - can we answer it?

In this episode, Ian and I talk about where we are as a culture and Ian's hope for awakening men worldwide.

Ian became fascinated by the mythic masculine archetype when he initially learned more about the feminine through his film work.
Ian was estranged from his grandfather growing up, but he went with his uncle to clean out his grandfather's home and came across a stack of books after his death. On top was "Iron John" by Robert Bly, which piqued his curiosity.
When young men are not correctly initiated into adulthood and society, they become men at the mercy of their ego and are suspended as "boy-men" in our culture.
The Dominator Culture is a term coined by Riane Eisler, who wrote The Chalice and The Blade. Eisler positions the dominator model in contrast to the partnership model, a more egalitarian structure of society founded on mutual respect among its inhabitants. In dominator culture, men rule over women, whereas partnership culture values men and women equally.
An awakened archetypical mother is a mighty force in the world.
Women tend to enact violence against themselves and Men against others.
The narratives we often create are that the world is out to get us, that we need to conquer nature or anything threatening.
The medical establishment creates a narrative around "war" - such as terms like "frontline workers" or "losing the battle to cancer," and there is a consequence to thinking about nature in this way.
Our colonized view of the world keeps us from reciprocally engaging with life.
The solutions mind is a colonized mind.

Learning more about the wisdom of my menstrual cycle over the years has helped me so much.

It’s hard to believe that in this day and age, modern women are still in the dark about the incredible, miraculous rhythmic cycles of the feminine.

Understanding our cycles has so much to do with our creativity, spontaneity, energy, and fertility, while holding so many clues to our emotions, our access to healing, and clearing out that which no longer serves us.

I love Taq’s work and now that I’ve had the chance to get to know her more deeply, I’m so moved by how she facilitates this work, not only with other women but how she honors this work in her own life.

I heard Lynne Twist speak for the first time approximately eight years ago and have been a huge fan of her work ever since. This is a time of deep rupture, but also tremendous wisdom.
The 20th Century was dominated by war or the fear of war.
We are experiencing a breakdown of governance and the rule of law globally that has been dominating and surpassing for centuries.
We are experiencing a revealing (revelation) of the many systems of colonization, white supremacy, racism, and the systematic abuse of other human beings.
The Soul of Money Institute has been working in the realms of economy and ecology with the goal of guiding our human family back into remembering our connection to mother nature and in building sustainability.
The masculine energy of economy and feminine energy of ecology need to work together in harmony and find a way to integrate and work together.
We need both the innovation and the production of the masculine energy but we need that energy to be tempered with the nurturing and the flow of the feminine - such as the elements of fire and water.
The pandemic is a portal into the change we need to reflect, reveal, regenerate, renew, recreate. This is a magical time where we invite the feminine back into our awareness.
This is also a time to trust nature and witness the regenerative power of our environment and see it as proof of what’s possible.
The Kichwa People use the word Pachamama which means the earth, the sky, the universe, and all time.
Lynne had an awakening experience through a shamanic ceremony and a vision and communication that connected her to an indigenous tribe called the Achuar people.
The Soul of Money and The Pachamama Alliance have both been an integral part of connecting to the wisdom of the indigenous people and bringing it to the modern world so that we can transform our ways.
The Remarkable Women’s Journey is a program offered by The Soul of Money Institute through a six-month journey and part of that is traveling into the Amazon Rain Forest learning how they can be of service to the world in a bigger way.
If you are a woman, your role is way more vital than you have known before.
